web 2.0 workshop

FYI If you have access to Greenbush workshops and want to know more about blogging, there is a workshop scheduled for Monday, Dec. 14th. It is being taught by Melinda Tilley. I've taken her workshops before and she is very informative and personable. Here is a description of the workshop:
You've heard the phrase, but what is web 2.0? This hands on session is designed for beginners and will explore all that is web 2.0; starting with the basics: What is Web 2.0 and why is it important in the classroom? Participants will set up their own blog, discover the power of PLN (Personal Learning Networks) and find resources to use in their classroom. **Please bring a laptop if one is available.

RSS bloglines

I checked out a few of the bloglines that were suggested in lesson #9 and here are my opinions:

Topix.net: I liked that I could put in any zipcode and get the latest headline news and weather. It was fun catching up with the hometown news and weather. I admit, I giggled when I realized that my family probably had to shovel their driveways this morning before leaving for church.

Syndic8.com - I loved the 5 random syndicated feeds and the 10 random headlines. I spent way too much time browsing these sites. The best site was fwicki.com. It has tons of features to add to your RSS page. I tried to download a few mashups but haven't been successful yet. I'm at school working and that darn sonic wall keeps spoiling my fun!

Technorati was overwhelming! I was lost and found myself reading an article on the Time.com website instead.

I'm getting the hang of this!

I know I need to work on the 23 lessons some more but I'm having fun setting up my blog page (is that what it's called?) Did you see the daily puppy? How cute!

Ok, I'm going to get to work now. I'll let you all know what I find in the lessons. By the way, I am following Osborne's Blog and he suggested bighugelabs.com - it's great. I spent a lot of time there and even wrote a letter from Santa for my niece.
